The Emergency Preparedness director for the City of El Dorado Springs is Jarrod SchiereckPolice Chief. In order to prepare for emergency situations, the City participated in the preparation of a Cedar County Emergency Operations Plan. The plan was completed in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety and the State Emergency Management Agency.

The City of El Dorado Springs maintains four storm warning sirens distributed through the community. The volunteer Fire Department members are also trained weather-spotters. When threatening weather approaches, the volunteer firemen are paged out. They go to various spots to watch for approaching tornadoes. If the sirens are activated, citizens should take cover immediately. Many people have a tendency to want to go outside and look for the tornado. You should not do this. You should immediately take cover.

The storm warning sirens are not designed or able to warn everyone. If you are indoors and have the television or stereo on, you may not hear the sirens. It is your responsibility to monitor the weather when storms are approaching. If you only rely on the storm warning sirens, you may not know a tornado is approaching. Also, the National Weather Service advises us not to sound an all clear signal. If you hear the sirens sound again, that means to take cover. The City will not give an all clear signal.
